LA restaurant week, finally!

Last Friday my apartment went to Citrus at Social, a French/American restaurant. Swanky huh?!

Appetizer- Goat Cheese Caesar :
A roulade -vegetarian style- with lettuce, tomatoes, goat cheese, and some other stuff, and is surprisingly not disgusting!

Entree: Artic Char - Potato Grits, Sherry Gastrique
Arctic char is fish! It basically tastes like salmon, except it's really tender and almost falls apart when you poke at it. There's potatoes under the fish, with a strip of bacon on top.

Dessert - Mushroom Vacherin
A hard chocolate cover with ice cream inside and a sugary mushroom stem, with pistachio anglaise. Did I mention, sugar overload?!?

Our meal was $34 (Ouch!) only because it was restaurant week, but normally each dish is regularly $20-$30! Even more ouch!

I've realized that nice restaurants are all about presentation. If you've got a great looking interior and a sophisticated setting and ambiance, then people will buy small portions of your food for a lot of money. The food was thick and rich and almost overwhelming, especially the appetizer and dessert. Also, the service was sluggish because it's supposed to be the opposite of "fast food" and they want you to take your time and savor the flavors. I think they time in between all your courses and wait 45 minutes before they bring the next one out. At least it seemed so.

The restroom was the best part! There's one way glass that you can look out of when you're peeing. So classy. And if you eat at the restaurant, you can get into the club upstairs (Social) for free! The club attracted a really eclectic crowd, and I would definitely want to check it out next time. Anyway, the dishes were innovative and the food was decent/mediocre, but it was the setting that added the extra -oomph!

What will be the next gastronomic adventure?
